In Italy, Evil Always Comes From Abroad

Italy refuses to take responsability for bad weather, illness, or heat.

Living in Italy for many years now, one of my favorite pastimes is admiring the Italian culture and its many peculiarities.

Today while watching the weather report it occurred to me that here in Italy, things that are bad are always attributed to other origins. It's as if they need to find someone to blame for the unpleasantries of life.

Today's phenomenon happened to be a weather alert for "Il Freddo Siberiano" (Siberian cold front). I have also heard this referred to as "Il freddo della Russia" or the Russian Cold.

The scirocco winds that sometimes whip through Italy are from Africa, as is the unbearable summer heat. The influenza on the other hand comes from Australia (hearing friends say they had contracted "L'influenza Australiana" made me laugh so hard I could barely breath). Imagine hearing "the British flu" or something as crazy as that?

Funny, all of the above are negative. Whereas everything good is naturally 100% Italiano.

You are right, mostly we tend to avoid responsibilities of any kind. But Siberian cold IS Siberian. Ever heard the russian term Buran, which is an icy cold wind coming from Siberia? In Winter it makes it to Western Europe as well, and boy if it is cold! In italy it generated the term buriana, which stands for tempest in certain regions, and generally for tough stuff.

what are you saying? we don't bear foreigners? ahahaha...what a foolish thing.
Oh dear it depends on the behaviour of the foreigners baby! if they are criminals of course we don't want them....but usually we love foreigners because Italy is the most visited country of the world from all the places wherever.
So we are very used to have foreigners in our country. For us it' s normal to live with foreigners and for that reason we are the most welcoming people in the world. So please don't spread what it's not true please. Here everyone is welcome if it's a good person not a criminal.

bye bye...
