If you happen to be on holiday in Rome, you most likely would never need to enlist the services of an Italian dentist. However, sometimes things happen when we least expect them to - imagine biting into a piece of delicious crusty Italian bread and losing a filling or a crown?

Before ringing the doorbell of the first dentist's office you see, you might want to read on. A report printed in Il Messaggero newspaper today outlines how 20% of the dentists practicing in and around Rome are quacks, with no qualifications whatsoever.

How is this possible you might be thinking? Easy, because there are hardly any repercussions for posing illegally as a dentist. The fine for such an offense is a mere 300 Euro! Mamma mia, I think I was fined more than that once for parking illegally! Ahh, only in Italia!
