The BEST time to visit Rome
From the lack of cars and traffic to the great summer nightlife, there's no place like Rome in August.
Is August the BEST time to visit Rome? Possibly.
The date: August 18. The time: 2:00 PM. The temp: 80 degrees and sunny. I have concluded over the past three weeks that August may just be the most pleasant time of year here in the Eternal City.
Those who tell you to avoid visiting Rome in August are obviously trying to keep this quiet utopia all to themselves. The truth is that in August you can experience Rome without any of the things that make it unpleasant, such as traffic, smog, noise, filth, and queues.
To top it all off, the weather is fantastic. I haven't had to turn on the AC (subjecting myself to imminent death by cold draft) since the end of July!
For a perfect holiday in Rome in August, be sure to book into a hotel with an outdoor swimming pool (like the one featured above at the ATAhotel Villa Pamphili), plan your sightseeing in Rome in the morning, come back to the hotel for a swim in the afternoon, and then head to the restaurants and nightclubs along the Tiber River all night and into the morning.
Who else out there is secretly loving Rome this month?

The best time is May, beat the searing heat and mass tourism too :-)
