Overview
We begin the tour with a visit to the Vatican Museums. Once inside, you will be guided through major galleries such as the Belvedere Courtyard, which houses the ancient and classical pieces from which so many artists took their inspiration. You'll see and learn about the Room of the Muses, the Gallery of Maps, and of course the magnificent Raphael Rooms. Before making your way into the astonishing Sistine Chapel, you will hear how Michelangelo struggled to accept and then complete the single most recognized piece of art ever created.
From the Sistine Chapel, as a customer of When In Rome Tours, you'll have right of way through a special exit which leads directly into St. Peter's Basilica. In the church we cover all the major works of art including Michelangelo's beautiful Pieta' and dome, the Baldacchino, and Bernini. The Vatacombs are included and you'll see the Crypt of St Peter, the Holy Altar and other monuments of great artistic importance. We conclude the tour on the portico where we discuss the Swiss Guard and the history of the Vatican City State.
