Visit the heart of Rome and learn about its history
Meet your guide at Rome’s magnificent Piazza Navona and embark on a walking tour through the heart of the Roman Dolce Vita. Catch the best of Baroque Rome, including the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Venezia while taking in the bustling Roman atmosphere (and of course an authentic Italian espresso) en route!
- Enter the Pantheon, the best-preserved piece of Roman architecture in the city
- Rome’s historic center is easily walkable and full of heart-stopping masterpieces around every corner, with a local guide you won’t miss a thing!
- Enjoy an espresso as the Romans do at a bustling coffee bar
This tour of iconic Rome begins on Piazza Navona, the most beautiful square in Rome. As you stroll across this picturesque promenade that lies above what was once emperor Domitian’s stadium, you’ll enjoy the scene of buskers and street artists while Bernini’s remarkable Baroque fountains take center stage. While you take in the stunning Fountain of Four Rivers, your guide will tell the tale of a 17th century feud between rival artists Bernini and Borromini that would be immortalized in their masterpieces.
Steps away in a seemingly unassuming little church, you’ll have a chance to view original masterpieces by none other than Caravaggio: the 16th century master of the Chiaroscuro technique using light and shadows.
The next stop is the Pantheon, a second-to-none architectural marvel built nearly 2,000 years ago as a Pagan temple to honor all the Gods. When the clock strikes ten – most Romans would agree that an espresso is in order, and far be it from us to defy a local tradition!
No visit to Rome is complete without a trip to the Trevi Fountain, immortalized in Fellini’s film “La Dolce Vita” by none other than Anita Ekberg, who decides to take an impromptu dip. Be sure to toss three coins into the blue water before moving on, as this is one tour you’ll want to repeat!
As we conclude the tour in Piazza Venezia your guide will show you just what makes this the “heart of Rome,” pointing out its proximity to Ancient Rome, the five major roads that converge in this piazza, the national monument, and the former residences of some very notorious personalities who resided there. Make the most of your time with a true local and feel free to ask your guide for tips on getting around, where to eat, shop or visit during your stay in Rome!
